Alltech Fennoaqua offers many paths to employee well-being

24.11.2025

Countless companies claim to prioritise health and wellness at workplace, yet not all are prepared to take concrete steps to promote them. At Alltech Fennoaqua, employee well-being is an integral part of everyday work and not something to be remembered only during ceremonial speeches. Employee satisfaction has always been high, and new improvements are continually planned and put into practice.

Alltech Fennoaqua’s CEO Tomi Kantola and Plant Manager Petri Elonen each play their part in ensuring that every member of the company feels valued and included.

“Following the change in ownership, Petri and I have been responsible for HR matters. But in my view, two people alone cannot ensure that wellness initiatives are developed and implemented. Everyone’s commitment is needed so that new ways of working can be adopted,” Kantola says.

Fennoaqua has launched a comprehensive workplace well-being program to help everyone work towards the same goals. Key elements include supporting staff through organisational changes, strengthening work capacity management and safety culture, and providing tools that help employees improve their own health and work abilities.

Renovated facilities lift team spirit

One of the most significant recent investments in staff well-being is the renovation of the old office premises next to the factory. During the renovation, the office will be almost entirely rebuilt and transformed into one unified, modern workspace. Parts of the building’s facade will also be renewed.

Until now, office employees have been divided between two separate units. The new office will be completed in early 2026, and it is a warmly welcomed improvement. In addition to daily work, the new, flexible space can also be used for staff gatherings and small customer events.

“Our employees are pleased about the new office, but the renovation is also a strong signal that Fennoaqua will continue to develop its operations at the current factory site. The decision to modernise the facilities demonstrates our commitment to continuing the fish feed industry in Finland. Many thanks to Alltech for recognising the importance of the new premises for Finnish fish farming and for our team,” Kantola says.

Building blocks for personal well-being

This fall, Alltech Fennoaqua has also organised two lectures for the entire staff on the importance of exercise, sleep and nutrition for overall well-being. In addition, all employees were offered the opportunity to participate in the UKK walk test, which provides a reliable assessment of the endurance fitness of healthy adults.

The voluntary test encouraged staff to assess their current level of physical fitness. Using test data, employees who are interested in improving their fitness can identify their starting level, making it easier to plan meaningful steps toward better health. The test can be repeated in spring 2026 to see the impact of increased physical activity.

Creating a healthy workplace culture together

Together with plant supervisors, Petri Elonen ensures that Fennoaqua’s plant employees have everything they need to work safely and efficiently. In cooperation with the company’s occupational health partner, risks associated with different job roles have been identified, and the necessary measures to minimise them have been implemented.

Elonen also ensures that plant personnel have the knowledge and skills required to meet future goals and challenges.

“One of my primary responsibilities is to create an atmosphere at the factory where everyone feels comfortable and can work effectively. We believe that when people feel equal, it is easier for them to raise issues and trust that their concerns will be addressed. A good atmosphere encourages everyone to take responsibility for their own actions and for developing their work,” Elonen explains.

Tomi Kantola reminds us that no company can succeed without satisfied employees.

“We want to support our people and ensure their well-being. That is why staff health and wellness cannot be just words we mention every now and then. We must plan improvements and work together to make sure they become part of our everyday working life.”
